CTIEC Wins the National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology in the National Science and Technology Awarding Conference

On the morning of Feb. 14th, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council grandly held the National Science and Technology Awarding Conference in Beijing. The achievement of the Complete Set of Technology and Industrialization Development of High Transmittance Low-Iron Glass for Solar Cells, developed by CTIEC, won the 2nd Award of the National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology. This achievement breaks the foreign monopoly, accelerates the emergence and development of China PV glass industry, and satisfies the urgent need for the critical materials due to the high-speed growth of the solar industry.
High transmittance low-iron glass (also known as PV glass or ultra clear PV glass) is the irreplaceable key materials of crystalline silicon solar cell module. The requirement of the key technical indexes which ensure the cells’ normal function, such as the transmittance of solar energy, etc, is remarkably high. Previously this technology had been monopolized for a long time by foreign big corporations so that we could only rely on the imported PV glass before 2005. Aiming to fill the blank of PV glass product and its manufacturing technology in China, Bengbu Institute and CTIEC take full advantages of scientific research, integrated innovations, engineering and industrialization, focus on developing and applying the critical technology, and finally make a breakthrough on three technological barriers. By utilizing the complete set of technology, CTIEC has undertaken and been undertaking over thirty production lines. Some key indexes, such as technology, quality, energy consumption, investment, etc. are in the world’s leading position. The products adopting this technology have passed the highest level of the SPF certification, and occupied about 85% market share in China and 45% in the world. This technology is of great significance in promoting the utilization of the solar energy in China and upgrading our international status on solar industry.
